Detailed keyword research is about more than compiling a list of related terms and synonyms using the popular tools from Google and Overture or signing up for WordTracker. In many ways, keyword selection is the single most important aspect of any successful SEO or PPC campaign. Over the past decade, we have honed our keyword research and selection process to help clients select keywords that are most closely associated with their target audience and search marketing goals.

Our Keyword Research Process

  • Discovery - The keyword research process really begins during the discovery phase of your SEO or PPC campaign when we gather information and data to ensure we understand your company, your website, the products and services you offer, your USP (Unique Selling Point), and your target audience.
  • Raw Keyword Research - Armed with the insight gained from the discovery phase we are able to identify with and think like the people who will want to see your site and be interested in your products and services. Knowing what differentiates you from your competition, we begin generating our untempered list of related terms and phrases. We also include the words and phrases your company uses internally, with special attention for the keywords you feel you ought to target and discarding those you think it best to avoid. This stage is meant to be an all-inclusive brainstorm that can then be whittled down to determine the best choices based on the search marketing campaign plans and objectives.
  • Full Keyword Research - Taking the raw list of keyword terms and phrases, we sort and rank them based on our extensive experience in the industry along with a proprietary process that allows us to weed out the terms that can be eliminated without further research. We then take the shorter list and perform our extensive keyword research for each of those identified words and phrases, taking data such as the projected search volume, search history trends, saturation, content relevancy, and more into account as we compile the necessary information to present you with our final keyword selection recommendations.
  • Keyword Recommendations - Upon the completion of our keyword research process, we are able to present you with a list of recommended words and phrases (as well as our rationale for each) to target in your search marketing campaign.
